Roth's MRFF-2000 Launch Report
I'm happy to hear that 14AL went well and Pavel's flight on
Sunday was quite a treat.
I spent Saturday and Sunday with NIRA at MRFF. Since NIRA was using WOOSH's Bong
reservation, NAR insurance and an FAA waiver with my name on it I thought it best that I
monitor the MRFF range. I'm sorry to say that I had to keep reminding the RSO/LCO of the safety code's safe distances
and to ask that people be moved further away from the high power pads when rockets were launched.
Other than that the event went well. But I didn't win anything in the raffle. :-(
Names that you may recognize:
Kevin Klein flew a high power two-stage rocket. 2.6" diameter. H242 to H180, if I recall correctly.
It worked perfectly. One of the few successful two-stage high power flights that
I've seen.
Chuck Nozika flew a three I300 (Blue Thunder) cluster. All motors ignited on the pad.
The three blue flames were a treat for the eyes.
Al Casper flew an AeroTech hybrid motor. It ignited immediately when the button was pressed.
Dave Zupan, who helped fight the grass fire last fall, flew a filament wound fiberglass airframed rocket on a K1100.
This flight seemed slower than another time when I saw the same rocket fly on the same motor.
I helped many people with high power certification on both days. AeroTech's new RMS delay design appears to be much
better than the original design. I also introduced one person to D12-0/C6-0 Snitch CHAD staging.
The first flight was perfectly straight during the burn of both motors. I was
amazed!
