Wisconsin Organization of Spacemodeling Hobbyists.Kurt Schachner's 06-01-02 Launch Report

All in all, a pretty good day for flying rockets. It was nice to be back with everyone, I don't make it out to the field as much as I used to. Today Tanya and the girls came along which was fun.

Anyway, I know Mark kept a pretty good record of everyone's flights, so I will just mention mine plus what I remember. I flew my Point once for a nice flight, plus my Farside as a three-stager. The upper stage ended up in a tree, but since the tree was down in a ditch, I was easily able to retrieve the rocket. I also flew my Gemini-Titan twice, first on two A8-3s and then on two B6-4s for a much better flight.

I also flew my Goblin on a B engine, which went surprisingly high for such a small engine. I did have my Saturn V all prepped and ready to fly (on a D12-5), but by 11:00 the winds were too high and they never really calmed down for the rest of the morning. It seems like every time I get that rocket ready to fly the winds pick up.

My daughter Laura flew one of her little dolls in Dave Seer's Farside-X which she really enjoyed. Thanks Dave! He also flew a few other multi-stage flights, including his Omega. Mark S. flew his spring-loaded Snitch on an Estes E engine, which apparently had "vectored" thrust and threw the Snitch into a cart-wheeling flight for the long burn time of that engine. Pretty cool and no fire on the ground. He replaced the engine and got a nice flight the second time.

We saw a brand new Shrox I-forget-the-name kit suffer a separation with a resulting core sample destroy the body. Too bad, it was a nice looking model.

Most of my other models stayed in the range box due to the winds. Otherwise, a nice day to fly rockets.

Kurt
