Make
It, Take It - October 2002
Scott Goebel's report on the Make It, Take It - October 2002
event.
We did a lot of good for the hobby today. We went through all
but two of the rockets. Made a lot of contacts with parents and young people.
Our sign up sheet may not tell the entire tale, I think that some kids and
parents did not sign in. There are 39 rocket kids on the sheet and I know we had
around 50 kits.
My daughter Emily and I arrived at the store at 11:30 and
began bringing in supplies. On our second trip back into the room there were
three adults and about ten kids waiting in the room. Most of the kids were cub
scouts. Brent showed up as we were bringing in the final load of supplies. I'm
glad Emily was with, she did a great job helping kids build rockets and passing
out supplies. Unfortunately, I found out late in the day that she had been
building the shock cord mounts on the kits without using glue. We will need to
be on the lookout for this when the kids bring their rockets out to play next
weekend. We had a bunch of nice rockets on display and some of the parents
stopped to ask questions about them. We even had a guy stop in the parking lot
to ask us where we flew the high power rockets. From what I heard from parents
and kids about half of them are planning to attend the sod farm launch next
weekend. I hope I get this part right. Much thanks go out to the efforts of the
WOOSH volunteers who arrived in time to help us build rockets today. Brent
Lillesand, David Go (who cut all the third fin slots in the "Hijax" rockets),
Dan Wolf, Fred Jarosch, JB Sommerfeldt, Mark Stehlik, Dr. Paul Smith, and Emily
Goebel.
