April 2003 meeting minutes

The Treasurer’s Report.

-Dan Wolf gave a presentation regarding the progress of the new pad boxes for the WOOSH club launch controller. He spoke at length about the new features of the pad boxes.

-Curt Neumann volunteered to drill out the pad boxes.

-Rebecca Neuwirth and her husband were on hand to talk about her middle school rocket club at the University school. We will be giving them a demo in early June.

-Kurt Schachner had printed out some of the membership ID cards. He gave them to Jerry Selensky to be laminated and distributed.

-Labels were requested to enable the newsletter to be mailed out.

-Space Day launch was discussed. Separate registration, club information, and scale model display areas will be used to organize the event. Dave Lyle suggested that we scratch the flyers fee as the launch is intended to be an outreach event. All agreed that we should cut the fee and ask for donations or hold a prize raffle instead. Jim Moroney passed around a copy of the press release he had cooked up for space day. Very nice work Jim.

-Scott Goebel passed around a copy of the Wisconsin State Journal, which contained the article written about the HSA implications.

-Financial statement was deciphered. We have money available to reimburse Dan Wolf for the pad box parts and part of the money needed to reserve the Sussex Park. A motion was made and seconded to pay half the fee to Sussex now and half at a later date contingent on Gabe Kolesari sweet-talking the town board. Motion passed.

-14AL event list was ratified

-Bong naturalist decision to hold off implementation of SUZ land use modifications was discussed. The Hensley sparrow and other grassland species of birds may require us to move our range to the east during nesting season.

-May 24th Homeland security act discussed. WOOSH will not require flyers to show proof that they comply with BATFE regulations. The legislative action and legal war are underway. Please send your letters in to your senators to support Senator Enzi’s bill to exempt rocket motors from the Safe explosives act.

BATFE meeting results were discussed. See president’s report for details.
