WOOSH meeting minutes from May 28, 2003

-Make it take it was discussed. We had 20 participants build rockets and only one came out to fly with us at Space Day. The same person came out to WYWH to fly again. We discussed holding a MITI on the same day as a sod farm launch in order to attract more of the participants to a launch. No action was taken to schedule another MITI.

-Distributed membership ID cards which were printed by Kurt Schachner and laminated by Jerry Selensky. More cards are on their way, if you didn’t receive your card at the meeting see Scott Goebel for your card.

-Kevin Wickart’s WYWH contest report report was read

-Space day was discussed. Everyone had a great time and liked flying at the Sussex Park. Mark Stehlik suggested that we have more give away’s at the next Space Day launch. Passed around thank you cards for Space Day sponsors. Cards were mailed out on Friday the 30th.

-Scott Goebel has volunteered to be the launch director for ECOF 2003. We discussed many options for fun events for ECOF and came up with three fun events. See the ECOF poster.

-The University middle school demo is scheduled for June 3; at 3:30 pm. Mark Stehlik and Scott Goebel have volunteered to do the work.

-The BATFE has only received 102 letters from the rocketry community about the NPRM #968 so far. This is a poor showing and everyone needs to write a letter immediately supporting the NAR and TRA’s position on the NPRM. Even if the letter is only a paragraph or two, send it in now. The information is available online at the NAR website or call Scott Goebel for help. If you do not do this before June 13th you are too late to help save your hobby.

-Scott Goebel asked for someone to fax in the next large model notification for the Sussex launch on June 14th. Kurt Schachner volunteered to do so.

-Dan Wolf spoke about 14AL. WOOSH members will be required to sign up for three one hour contest range duty shifts when they register to compete. We barely had enough participants to make the regional 10 participant requirement. It was suggested that we consider working harder to bring in more competitors or tone down our contest season and hold one regional and several open or local meets. Some of the meets could also be flown at the Sussex field in the future.

Dan also suggested we form a symbiotic relationship with a couple of other clubs where they would agree to travel to our regional and we would travel to theirs. This was done in the past but has not been put into practice lately.
